To bring in the new year we braved the cold weather to attend Toton’s 27th annual duck race on New Year’s Day, but don’t worry no ducks were harmed in making of this race only rubber ducks are used. The Annual New Year’s Duck Race has been taking place in Toton since 1991. This year we sponsored 2 of 1,500 entries. The race took place at river Erewash, in Manor park, Toton. All money raised went to Age UK Derbyshire and this year’s races raised £2,700!
The event consisted of two races the first was for the local businesses, which we took part in sadly we didn’t have the golden duck but it was none the less a quacker to watch. The second was the larger race which anyone could enter, with the first ten ducks crossing the finish line 600 yards down from the start, won numerous prizes donated from local businesses. Along with the races there were ongoing raffles, with food and drink stands where I treated myself to some mulled wine.
Looking forward to next year!
