WOW, what a wonderful year!!!

Happy New Year to you all, and what a difference a year makes, especially at Onyx!

A year ago we were surrounded by scaffolding, as our much needed new roof was installed. But look at us now with our new canopy; we’re back to our former glory!

The new shop front wasn’t our only new addition this year…we’ve had a new member of staff, the lovely Annalise, who has been a customer of Onyx since she’s been a little girl, always coming in with her mum.

We’ve also said goodbye to one of our staff members, Becky, who has gone on to a biomedical career after gaining a first class honors degree, we couldn’t be more proud!

Zoe returned to work after her maternity leave last year, but is leaving us again as she is expecting baby number two in January!

January is booming with babies for us. My first daughter, Shirin, is also expecting, how exciting! At this juncture I ask you to bare with us as we may close the odd day in January when my Grandchild arrives, but don’t worry we will be back! We’ve not only welcomed new members of staff but also a new neighbour. Christine’s Delights opened this December; a wonderful and homely Mediterranean café who are already doing so well. A real treat for Beeston indeed that compliments the array of fabulous eateries we have here.

Its fair to say that all of us at Onyx have a passion for food, so it was no surprise for us to sponsor the Food and Drink category at this years Best of Broxtowe awards. We had such a fabulous evening, not only were we nominated by our customers for the best small business award, but the icing on the cake was actually winning it! What an achievement, I’m so proud of our team!

I want to take a moment to thank all of our amazing customers we have at Onyx, whether its for the hundreds of sentimental repairs and renovations we’ve accomplished, the numerous engagements and weddings we’ve been a part of, the creative bespoke designs that we’ve crafted or everything in between, we wouldn’t be Onyx without you – Thank you.

Our amazing customers.

Its always heart warming to read the lovely reviews we regularly receive on our social media platforms.

I pinch myself when I realise we have over 150 five star reviews, and the fact that customers have taken the trouble to write such amazing comments. It means the world to me.

I truly believe in the power of independent businesses and the local community. We’ve been the official sponsors of the Beeston football club under 8’s team for the past two years and this year we sponsored Jack Needham, who will be competing in the BMX world championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in June 2018.

This year we’ve also raised over £1,000 for our chosen local charity, the John Van Geest Cancer research centre at Nottingham Trent University. We did a sponsored static cycle in October, but it wasn’t just us cycling, the Beeston community got behind us and many other businesses joined in and cycled a few miles on the day too!

We often present informative and engaging talks on all things jewellery to Ladies Guilds. This year we joined the Middleton Ladies Guild and the Ernehale Towns Women’s guild. The groups generously offer to pay for our time but instead we ask they donate to our chosen charity. One of the Towns women’s guild ladies was invited to the Queens Garden party at Buckingham Palace; she hired our jewellery to wear as she ‘wanted to look like royalty too’ – how sweet!

We would also like to thank everyone who joined in with our infamous competitions this year! We’ve had so much fun with everyone whether it was our Fathers day ‘Dancing Dads’, Mothers day ‘Selfie ’ competition or ‘Guess the gemstone’ for our Easter give away. The fun and games didn’t stop there either; we celebrated our 31st Birthday in the summer and even received a letter from the Mayor saying that Beeston wouldn’t be Beeston without us…we couldn’t have asked for a better birthday gift – a true highlight of the year.
